About API CK-4 and ACEA E8 or E11

What is API CK-4?
The current North American category for high-speed four-stroke diesel engines. It improves oxidation stability, shear stability and aeration control while protecting against wear and deposits, and it is compatible with exhaust aftertreatment systems.

What are ACEA E8 and E11?
Newer European heavy-duty categories that raise the bar on piston cleanliness, valvetrain wear and oxidation control versus earlier E6 or E9. E11 focuses on extended durability in severe conditions. E8 targets advanced performance with aftertreatment compatibility.

Is it backward compatible with CJ-4 or older ACEA categories?
In many cases yes, provided the viscosity and OEM approvals match the vehicle handbook. Always check the manual and the approval list above for your engine.

Does this change oil drain intervals?
Follow the OEM drain interval or telematics-based maintenance plan. Approvals like VDS-4.5 or RLD-3 support long drains when used with approved fuels and filters.

What fleets will benefit most?
Mixed fleets running Euro VI or equivalent emissions standards, long-haul trucks, municipal vehicles and off-highway equipment that require CK-4 and modern ACEA sequences with 10W-30 for fuel economy.
